What is a lower cost alternative to Vance and Hines slip on

I know.....
What a hack job.
But it took 5-minutes to make the stock muffler sound great, without being as loud as most aftermarket exhausts.
It was planned to be temporary until I decided which exhaust I wanted to buy. But I am so satisfied with the results that I am staying with it as is, and I will instead send my ECU to Ivan for a reflash.

@Schu you used a bimetal hole saw for that or something harder? A friend of mine who shall remain nameless had a helluva time trying to do this with bimetal.

I love this mod! I always thought the bike had a good sound, but this mod makes it just a little nicer.

I used a new 1-1/2" bimetal with a 10" extension and it cut through without any effort. Only issue I had was it felt like it cut through two layers of metal and the cutout piece was not in the hole saw. Looked inside with a flash light and all I could see was the Catalytic converter. The piece didn't shoot out of the tail pipe when I started the bike up, so I am guessing it is in a safe place

Bike sounds great!

Also have the Cobra PowrFlo Air Intake and had Ivan's flash the ECU.

The first thing you felt was probably the pilot drill breaking thru before the actual hole saw started cutting. My cutout piece almost came out with the hole saw blade. It fell out right at the exit of the exhaust and all I had to do was pick it out with my fingers. The bimetal worked quick and fast for me too.

Bimetal worked fine. Tell your nameless friend to check his reversible drill motor. You are drilling blind inside the can so maybe you didn't notice it was running in reverse.

Yeah I saw both of those videos before I found the video using the 1.5" hole saw.
The first video seems like more work than the 1.5 hole saw and it sounds the same.
The second video leaves the wide mouth open pipe out there where squirrels might move in and stash their nuts.
The hole saw method seriously took less than 5-minutes for satisfying results and opportunities like that are few and far betweeen at my age!

That nameless friend of mine finally pulled the trigger (literally!) on the hole saw mod. According to my friend, the difference isn't really noticeable at low RPMs, but with the throttle wide open, it's got a much deeper rumble than before. Friend would describe the sound as a little bit farty. In a good way.

Glad your nameless friend finally decided to open it up. I know a guy who would love this simple modification giving it a little bawlsier sound, but he just can't be swayed.... Pfft.
