First post on here so here goes. I am looking to replace my standard can with a Akrapovic satin black can, but it does not come with the cat this is an extra. Has anybody tried one of these with or without the cat.

Welcome. Not tried it myself, but from the research I did (because I was considering one), I believe it’s optional. In the EU, for example, I think you need it to meet homologation rules, but I don’t think you actually need it to run the exhaust, if that makes sense?
Cheers,

That's a nice looking can. Any suggestions on retailers/prices in the U.S.? Akrapovic points me to the Parts Unlimited distributor.
Not sure about the US - Revzilla? (Only one I know really, from their YouTube reviews). They have 10% off though:

I know in the U.K., it’s the official Yamaha aftermarket exhaust they offer in the parts catalogue, so you could just ask your local dealer. They’re even running an offer until 30 June, and you get this exhaust free when you buy a new SCR. It’s nice sounding too (without the baffle in, anyway)......

So I found this, which is a bit less than Revzilla. I believe it's the same pipe, but not sure if the mounting is the same. What do you think?

It’s the same code as the Akrapovic site, so I don’t see why not. What you might want to check with them, is that it comes with the link pipe for the SCR (see pic, below). I think Akrapovic supply it with a straight link pipe (for the Bolt), and an upswept one (for our bikes). Might just wanna check Partzilla include them both.

Fitted an Akrapovic silencer yesterday. Decided I don't mind paying top money for something that fits right first time out of the box. Don't know why you'd need the cat unless your bike gets tested for emissions - needless to say I didn't buy one! 40 mins to fit and 20 of those were working out how to take apart the O2 sensor wiring plug (not strictly necessary but less chance of damaging the wires; you need to get your fingernail or a small screwdriver under the little tab on the top and lift the inner part of it BTW). You will need to cut the tie-wrap holding the bunch of wires together and re-fit a new one on re-assembly. Pleased with the sound. Not too loud but just enough of an edge to it, and a nice snarl on over-run. Just waiting for my Hepco and Becker luggage rack and we can hit the Continent for some serious miles! Each time I stop for fuel someone looks at the bike and compliments it. Excellent!

Yeah, that O2 sensor is a real headscratcher at first!

Are you running it with or without the baffle?

As for the attention the bike gets, I’m also getting chatted to (not up, unfortunately!) every time I stop. They’re so rare over here. I’ve been asked if it’s a custom and all sorts. :grin2:

It has a removeable baffle? So at present it's as it came out of the box, and what I'd call "sensible" in terms of noise. Tell me about the baffle though...
Watch the ‘Black Bolt’ video above - that shows it running both with and without.

This video shows it in more detail:

Bollocks! The end cap on mine is not obviously removable. No three bolts. Just riveted to the can. I can see the DB killer that is fitted into the main pipe but no idea how to remove it without risking damage. Might email Akrapovic. Unless anyone has any other ideas?

return it. get your money back !!!

take the baffle out of your stock exhaust and reinstall.

or find a professional to drill out the rivets on your akra. sounds like your in over your head. i would hate to see the baffle fly off your bike and hurt someone.

Ha ha! That's funny! Where would I find a professional pop rivet driller? Probably some back street garage somewhere. Think I'll just live with it. The Akra baffle on closer inspection is spot welded in place so even if I removed the end cap it would need some heavy butchery to get it out. I'd guess it is a variant supplied via Yamaha that ensures it neither gets too noisy nor messes too much with the ECU mapping due to baffle removal.

Get them e-mailed! I wouldn’t be putting up with that.
