Does anyone know what fastener size this mounting hole is? I can't figure out for the life of me if it's standard or metric, let alone the exact size. M8 is too small, M10 seems too snug. M9 would be the logical one but it's not a common size.

It's M10. At first the threaded hole will be snug due to frame finishing paint coating the inside. You can either run a chasing tap through or just persist torquing down on a good M10 bolt, backing it out a few times to blow out paint residue. The latter worked for me.
