I'll sell you my old ECU for $150, under one condition...

I bought that salvaged, Ivan-preinstalled ECU off ebay recently and I don't really have any use for my original one, so I have a proposition here:

I'll sell you my old ECU for below market value - if you make me a promise (more on that below). If you have been on the fence about getting Ivan's reflash because it would mean your bike would be temporarily inoperable (like I was), this would let you leave your stock ECU in place and you could send the one you get from me to Ivan instead. Or I can send it directly to Ivan in your name and save you some hassle.

After you swap out your old ECU, you must promise to sell yours for no more than I sold you mine. Sound like a fair deal?

very kind of you to think that way for helping others,
but question here...

if you sent it to Ivan, will you pay shipping? and the buyer pays the reflash cost (which is 300 something) ? how could that be fair for you?

assuming buyer pays shipping (sending and returning) + 300 something + 150 that would get it close to 500-600 ... right?

on the other hand... I have a question... how long does it take (in total) for me to send / receive back my ECU ? (how much time will I be non-op?)
Chaps,

Not to thread hi-jack, but there’s some talk on the Bolt forum of Ivan now offering a “reflash v2”, potentially only available in the last couple of months:

Whoever takes up @jobirobi ‘s offer, when you speak to Ivan, could you ask him about this please? Apparently, it’s been on offer less than 3 months, and one of the improvements it makes is richening out the mixture at higher RPMs. I’d also be intrigued to know what other changes they’ve made......

Others on here who have got the reflash ( @Schu ?) - you need to get on this too! Ivan’s always stated any customers can get updated flashes for free (minus shipping).

To answer @harleyy_rider22 - I think Ivan always attempts to turn around domestic customers’ ECUs the same day (ie he flashes it and posts it back the day he receives it), so you shouldn’t be out of action more than a few days’.....maybe a week, tops.

I guess I'd be asking the buyer to pay for the shipping to Ivan, either paying a little more when they buy the ECU from me or they could pay for a shipping label for me to use (which would make it easier for the buyer to track it). When they receive the ECU, Ivan's people call the buyer to charge for the flash and the return shipping.

Yeah, sounds right. You'd be able to get $150 back (but not more!!) if you sell your stock ECU after swapping it out.

That depends on how much you feel like spending on shipping. From personal experience with flashing firmware on other devices, that process takes minutes at most.

Oh no way!! This is news.

I wonder if "customer" means "people who have given Ivan money in the past" or just "people who own a previously-reflashed ECU" ... Maybe I should look into this before I ship off my backup ECU!

UPDATE:

I called up Ivan, and he said if you have a stock intake (like I know I do :wink2: ), the difference between the flashes is negligible. He said the changes he made would make a fuel controller unnecessary.

That’s interesting, as I don’t have a stock intake.

I’m extra interested, as Spiros (his Euro counterpart) e-mailed me a few weeks ago, and said he/they may have solved the issue with 2017+ Euro bikes illuminating the engine check light post-reflash. I wonder if that’s part of the “update” (which of course is irrelevant to those in the US). I might have to give him a call too.......

Thanks for the info.
