EDIT: Ah, I misread your comment. Anyways, looks cheaper on ebay than from the source.
That's appears to be to protect the head in an off-road crash. On the street I'm not seeing how anything would contact the head, and in general the heads are well protected. So just bling and more weight, it seems.
