It finally stopped raining here in the Florida Keys, so Saturday I took Ole Steve out for a little spin. Key Largo to Key West and back. Exactly 200 miles, not counting tooling around KW. And ...

It's been a long time since I rode a naked bike. The lack-o-windshield beat the **** out of my neck. But, I really don't like the look of shields on this bike, so I guess I'll just have to build up the ole muscles.

I also discovered that the seat, even with the replacement cover and gel, sucks. Good thing I can stand up on this thing periodically to stretch. Might have also been the fact that I haven't ridden anything resembling distance in years, and the last bike for that was a BMW GS with a broken-in Corbin. My butt is seriously out of shape. LOL!

Overall, it's a fun bike to ride, even if it's just in a straight line. (South Florida sucks for riding).

On another topic, still playing with options. I have some old Pelican cases that I'm going to try and mount up. My "prop them up on the exhaust pipe and see what they look like" evaluation says they will work pretty well. With the leather courier bags on order, I should get enough storage for overnight trips and longer. And I think the look is what I'm after as well. Kind of 1975 meets adventure travel. Pics soon.

Lack of a windshield makes for a rough ride after a while. I can personally recommend this windshield from National Cycle if you ever wanted to give in and buy one. It's fairly low-profile and diverts enough wind off of your body so the ride is more enjoyable. Amazon says it doesn't fit but they're full of sh1t. Don't trust the Man! Here's what it looks like on our bikes:

PS your courier bags went into the mail this afternoon! Hope you enjoy them when they arrive!

One step up in size from the FlyScreen that Krixtoph is running is this National Cycle wind deflector. This probably gets you into the category that you don't like on the SCR.

Personally I prefer the style of the one Krixtoph has, but I am happy with the one I got from national cycle and it's held up well since I got it back in November.

Helmet? This is Florida! LOL!

Actually, I always wear one. Wasn't the helmet, per se. Just the fact that I haven't ridden in a few years and forgot what a longer ride can do to you. And I was spoiled with my previous bikes.
I rode the SCR naked for the first month and it just happened to be when we were getting 15-20mph gusts in the evening. Morning ride to work was calm as could be, but the trip home was an absolute endurance test.

I was a newbie so that might have something to do with it, but I definitely remember and don't miss the feeling of being thrown from one side of the lane to the other.

You may not believe how much difference does this small shield make,
it really does a great job, going in the head wind like knife in butter, and deflecting the wind off my chest

yes, the bike can be ridden naked, and I have been riding it naked until last month when I added those 2 game changers (the windshield and the corbin seat)

and now the foot pegs are on their way

doing a 200 miles ride in one day made me know exactly what's missing...

That one also is from national cycle and I got it off ebay $180 shipped

LOL will consider that as a side business ... :grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2:
How far are you from the centre of San Fran man? (that rhymes!)

I rode a Harley there a few years ago - from LA, up thru the national parks (Yosemite etc), couple of nights in ‘Frisco, then down the PCH back to LA. Holiday of a lifetime - I think of it at least once most days’, and I WILL return.....one day. :smile2:

I really wanna do that, just preparing the bike and myself mentally, couple of things are now out of the way...

Let me know whenever you're back, I'd join the tour ... :smile2:

I hear the tips are good..
:grin2::grin2: Trust me I have done it a few years ago... (with a 1997 Nissan Pickup)
ended up crashing it while delivering a pizza, on a rainy day (brakes locked)
the pizza place owner came after I called him and told him I crashed, smiled to everyone, police, other car driver and me, then he picked up the pizza and went to deliver it himself :grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2:

Neither.....Heritage Softtail. I don’t like screens - hence the current bike! 0:)

It actually had a screen on when I collected it in LA.....I told them to take it off. One of the guys said “you’ll need it on the freeway”. I told him if I wanted a screen, I’d have rented a car....that shut him up. >:)

Nice lookin bike. I noticed the graphics are different...much better imo. Now you just need some black vinyl to cover the upper forks?..
I also like the black bezels and clock-back..
You know something? I thought you’d been drinking when I first read this. “What’s he on about?”, I thought, but then I went and looked at a pic of a red US bike on here (with the lid on the tank), and then mine (attached), and I’ll be damned - they ARE different!! I’d never noticed that at all before!! :grin2:

Both the bezel and clock-back will be history when I get round to fitting the Koso though (although that has its own black bezel, natch).

Speaking of which - got the Koso hooked up today, and took it for a run to Classic Night at Squires Cafe (note the guy in one shot in all his Rocker finery! :grin2:)

Very impressed with the Koso so far - early days re learning all the functions, but got the mileage set (of course), and the speedo dialled in as per my sat nav. Gear indicator is pretty accurate out of the box, to be honest, might just take a little fine-tuning for it to show 1st consistently.
