Depends upon the gas blend, but I can get a weird smell out of both the Super Tenere & SCR950 exhaust. Both have stock exhausts with the cat. in place.
Run that fuel out, giving it the beans a few times on the highway and then switch brands and see if it(smell) changes. It ought to. =)

Well, you got me thinking. I honestly don't know if the SCR does or not. The XTZ12 has an obvious one (photo) before the muffler, but it may be to catch the exhaust at it's hottest due to the relatively distant muffler.

It probably does because it’s so heavy. I remembered changing out my previous bikes’ exhaust and it wasn’t even heavy at all because they all had external cats

Exactly what's inside the stock muffler may vary from country to country to meet emissions standards. At least some will require a cat.

According to the Owner's Manual the stock SCR950 exhaust does have a catalytic converter.
