Service time woes

Greetings fellow SCR owners, apart from whining about the set backs of a recent dealer service - damaged sump thread, lost side panel rubber and clutch adjusted so tight the lever was off its stop, I've a query about rear shock adjustment.
The manual states there's a C spanner and extension handle in the tool kit provided, none present in the one I got.
None of the C spanners I've acquired over four decades of bike ownership fit the rear shocks, nor can I see a reference mark for ensuring both sides are adjusted equally.
Does anyone know of an available C spanner that fits and am I missing anything on the adjustment ring to check where the setting is?

My spanner wrench was in its own separate bag and I think it was originally stashed in a different location than inside the plastic tube. I can't recall its been so long. Now my tools are all stashed under my seat in one of Krixtophs custom leather bags.

Christ - the dealership stripped the sump plug??!!:eek: Which one was this, so I know to never, ever go there……

The clutch thing I’ve noticed several times - they often adjust tight as a guitar spring…..shows how much they refer to the manual (5-10cm free play at the lever end, for those who don’t know).

Re the c-spanner - mine didn’t come with one either. I think there’s a thread on here about lots of bikes going out with incomplete tool kits, maybe more in the U.K. than the US. I contacted my dealer pretty soon after I’d realised, and they sourced me one. I think the Yamaha ones are pretty generic - the same one fitted my recently departed XSR, too.

Why don’t you ask your dealer if they can get you one? If it’s the same one as above though, just don’t ask them to adjust them for you!! :ROFLMAO:

Re adjustment - don’t you have the owners manual? You have to make sure the shocks are on the same ‘step’ (notch) on each side - see below.

Thanks for all the info in the replies above, definitely never stepping over that dealer's threshold again so will look for a generic C spanner on the web.

I don’t think it is (I can’t look, as I have Hagons fitted), but I imagine you do it by feel.

Turning it all the way in direction B, as above, in effect ‘resets’ the shock. You’ll hit the sort of bumpstop you can see on the right, in the cut-out picture, and won’t be able to turn it any further at that point (I wouldn’t try too hard though, as I imagine you can force it past that).

Then set them to your preference, as per the instructions in the ‘Spring Preload Setting’ box.

Thanks Ben, there's a multitude of C panners available so once I've sourced one I'll give it a go.
