SS Brake Lines Help

Can someone point me in the right direction when it comes to buying stainless steel brake lines? For example, a link to a company that sells a kit that would fit the OEM specs, or a series of measurements I may need to custom order a set.

I've searched here and also googled to the best of my ability, and I've come up short ☹

There are some information here and there, and Gaffer sells rear brake lines specifically for our bike (no doubt because the rear appears to share the same length as all other Bolt variants), but nothing where I can confidently buy a set to replace my OEM lines

Do you specifically want to replace your brake lines? If you just like the look of stainless lines you can simply sleeve your existing lines. 🤓
I was looking to replace my lines with braided lines for its toughness and ability to last longer than OEM lines.

The look is also cool, but I'm really looking to do the real thing.

If anyone knows what I should buy to get a braided lines setup similar to OEM, I am all ears!

Probably a good idea. The SCRs pretty poor brakes are my old man’s number 1 criticism whenever he has a go, to the extent that he now refuses to! :ROFLMAO:🤦‍♂️. Then again, he is used to double disc front brakes, quite often Brembo monoblocks……. :D. It’s just something I’ve never got around to doing……I did it on the Harley I sold a couple of years ago though, and it does make an appreciable difference. I agree with you too - they do look pretty cool!

Goodridge do a kit. This is on the UK site, but you have Goodridge over the pond, right?:

Failing that, I presume they do mail order…..

There’s a number of others companies in the UK who will knock you up a kit, but if they don’t already offer one, you’ll need to send them measurements. I imagined kits will be unlikely, given the scarce nature of our bike, but clearly Goodridge offer one!! :ROFLMAO: I presume a kit for the Bolt (XV950) would fit, too?

A couple of other companies over here I can think of, off the top of my head…..

Hel: Braided Brake Lines, Fittings and Calipers from HEL Performance
(Hel were the ones I went with, on the Harley….)

Venhill: Motorcycle brake lines

Wow, lots of options in the UK! None of these popped up in my searches, probably because I suck at searches lol.

Re: braking power of the SCR950, I have not even ridden one yet to experience it myself, but I've tried the best (dual front disc on six pot Bremos) and the worst (single disc four pots stopping a heavy ass Harley), and although I've found joy in all of them, I would like to improve certain safety features as much as possible, with braking being one of these areas (I've also bought the Soundbomb horn, as well as a fresh pair of rubbers despite the OEM rubbers having a ton of tread).

I'm going to check out the English offerings you pointed out, right now! Thank you!
I noticed on the Goodridge site that this is for the 2017 SCR950 with ABS. I was always under the impression that this bike is not equipped with ABS.

Is there a difference between the North American and European versions? Or was I mistaken and the NA and Euro versions have ABS? Does it even matter (ie would the cables fit either with or without ABS)?

I've got the thing in my cart and I'm ready to pull the trigger. I will send an email to Goodridge, but they may not know for sure.

If anyone here does, please let it be known 🙂

And re: same length lines on a Bolt, I would imagine the fronts would be different due to the different front layout

I don’t think anyone over there has ABS on their SCRs, from previous discussions we’ve had on here. It’s certainly mandatory in the U.K. now though, and could well be in mainland Europe too, don’t quote me on that though.

I don’t imagine there would be too much difference between the lines for an ABS and non-ABS bike, but I could be mistaken. Probably better to ask them.

I was under the impression that, regardless of having ABS or not, braided lines would only be provided to replace the hoses between the master cylinders and the callipers, and that you wouldn’t touch the lines for the ABS units?👨‍🔧

Like I say, I don’t know, as I’ve never replaced lines on an ABS bike before, but I imagine fiddling with the lines to the ABS unit could get real messy. Not only that, but the lines, certainly on the SCR, run along the spine of the bike, under the tank. They are also solid metal, not rubber, so in my eyes would never need replacing, as they can never bulge, or perish, like rubber lines can.

Like I say, this is all spitballing on my part though. I’d guess you’d be fine, but you’re probably best to ask them.

Keep us updated.

Cheers,

Ben

The front brake line is identical to the one on the bolt. The forks, rotor and caliper are all the same.
I thought it would be (y)

That answers my question!

Before this I just posted all the stuff I've done to this bike since I purchased her less than a month ago.

When looking at that list, plus the money I put down on high quality gear (which I will also update), and the state of the economy, I think I should slow down with the mods lol.

But this mod will be my next move, no doubt!

I used the lines for bolt , perfect fit .I also changed the brake pads to the double H sintered , great upgrade to the braking .

Thanks for the reassurance! Galfer sells the front lines to fit the Bolt, so I will most likely go with them when the time comes, which is starting to look like next season
FYI, Goodridge emailed me back to let me know that their front brake lines are only guaranteed to fit the ABS version of our bike.

I imagine that’s only to cover their backs - I’m sure there would be no issue.

I suspect you are right, but since Galfer actually makes a front kit for the Yami Bolt, and it's cheaper than Goodridge, I'll probably get that at some point.

Don’t blame you at all - let us know how it goes. Something I need to look at, at some point, too…..if only to appease my Dad!! 🤣

Cheers,

Ben
