Steering vibration - new rider

Hi all, I decided to purchase the SCR950 as my first bike. I love it!

One thing I noticed, and I am sure this might have been discussed here, is the steering shaking/vibrating when in 40-45mph . It is barely noticeable but visually evident when just barely holding the grips.

Tires are properly inflated and wheels seemed trued. Bike has 2K miles. Another thing I noticed is that there is this feel that the steering is not tight enough when coming to a stop or riding at slow speed.

I have put so far about 300 miles on it with this lovely late fall weather :)

thanks all

Yes, definitely a known issue. Some have installed steering dampers, but I think many have replaced the steering head bearing with the All Balls Racing part. I had mine replaced at a shop, but others have done it themselves. https://www.amazon.com/All-Balls-Steering-Bearing-2014-2018/dp/B07RRR5HCN

They all do it stock. It's the flat head bearings, they feel like a loose tapered bearing, but they last forever and dont need maintenance.
Mine does it bad if I let off the gas at 45mph and coast to a stop without keeping a little pressure on the grips.
I know it's going to do it, so I hold on tight enough to stop it and it doesnt bother me, im not one to ride without holding onto to the bars anyway.

I think Yamaha engineered that head shake into the SCR to keep in line with the 70's scramblers! 😉

I noticed the Anakee III comes in a 110/80 R19 for the front tire instead of stock spec. Did you notice a difference on the handling? With a smaller diameter, it seems like steering would be more responsive and less cruiser-ish. Would be interested to see how that tire looks on your bike.

I loved my annekee’s I also changed the fork oil to 15 w and moved the fork tubes up in the triple tree about 10 mm . It made the steering a lot quicker, but it’s still a 500 pound top heavy bike.

I wouldn't describe it as top-heavy, at all.
I got the 'top heavy' vibes when I first got mine as well. I think when coming from a sports bike or a much lower cruiser (sportster/48/iron) that the bike will come off as top heavy. Before my steering damper, it would also dive/fall into a low speed turn, indicative of being top heavy.
