Next summer I want to go on a motorcycle trip. I have become very interested in Deals Gap and Tail of the Dragon. For those unfamiliar, "The Dragon" is an eleven mile stretch of scenic, rolling twisty road near the North Carolina/Tennessee state line. I have never been there but would love to check it out. It would be great to hear stories from people who have been there and what their experience was like. When is a good time to go? Where are good places to stay/camp? What are some of the best sites to see? Thanks.

this may will be my 51st time there, I love that area.
so much great riding everywhere, the dragon is fun to do but highway 28 and the cherohala skyway are way better I think .

If you're going on the SCR, keep the speed down. SCR scrapes heavily, especially on the right side. I'll be there sometime this coming year too, but my SCR will have longer shocks and raised front suspension to give me more ground clearance!

Man, if there are enough people interested, we should set up an event at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Canton, NC. Take a day excursion to the dragon, and another trip to sample the many breweries in the area. (Oscar Blues is a blast, especially if there's a band playing!)

Although I don't have an SCR as yet I would actually love to see coverage of a potential group ride. Plus this would be a great time to get some real feedback of what the SCR is like on one of the most challenging roads depending on how feedback from owners here goes.

I know it's an old post but just got back from the Dragon, didn't scrape here but did scrape a few times while riding in the area. Not sure why a bear would be hanging on Dragon, guess his mama didn't tell him it was a busy road. The pic of the SCR is when I pulled off just to watch everyone buzz by.
