I'd like to introduce myself to you folks, my name is Matt. I live in Rhode Island and I've had my SCR since January.

Prior to this I had a Suzuki RM80 as a kid, a 1979 Suzuki GS500, and a 1975 Honda CB500T that I never should have sold. I've been reading this forum for a little while now and have found a lot of helpful information on here, thank you for that.

I look forward to interacting with you all! I'm going to start a separate thread to showcase my bike for some possible suggestions/opinions.

Well, I realized that I should have just posted this in this thread but I can't figure out how to edit my original post so here we are.

I bought my SCR in January with 5,500 miles and since then I've ridden over 3000 miles.

I've made some upgrades and slight modifications to include:

-Michelin Anakee 3 tires, the grip is phenomenal.
-Front and rear EBC sintered brake pads
-OEM Adventure pegs
-OEM skidplate
-Baron Raise Up kit
-Philips Night Breaker headlight bulb
-Vance and Hines Competition Series muffler
-Renthal Street handlebars, size medium
-Vans Waffle Grips
-Round fork reflectors and removed rear reflectors
-Removed meter bezel

I've also done a little bit of maintenance along the way. Spark plugs and air filter were replaced for new OEM parts as well as a fresh OEM Yamalube oil and filter change despite the fresh dealer oil change. I've adjusted the clutch lever and throttle flee-play, and adjusted the shifter and brake pedals to my preference. I've also lubricated just about every moving part of the controls and accessories.

I'm currently in the middle of a neck bearing job in my basement which I will hopefully be finishing tomorrow morning before work. (I work as an X-Ray Tech.) Before I button it up tomorrow, I'll change the front fork oil since I have them off the bike anyways.

I never take pictures while I'm tinkering but I want to try to make an effort to get some pictures along the way and post them in here as just a way to share with you all.

Heres a picture before I switched back to stock mirrors and changed the grips.

Welcome!

Let us know how the neck bearing job goes and how the ride the feels afterwards. Been wondering if it I can do it myself or if I should entrust to a "pro".

Welcome! I just ordered the Anakee 3's and can't wait for the improved ride and handling. How long have you had those tires on and how is the tread life on them?

The Anakee 3's are great, they handle very confidently and they're really predictable on pavement and also dirt roads. I've had them for about 3,500 miles and they still look and feel new.

I finished the neck bearing job a day or two after that original post and I can confirm that my handlebar wobble is completely gone. I used to get violent wobble after a few seconds of letting go of the handlebars depending on the speed but I can now remove both hands and coast at all speeds with zero wobble.

The job was a bit of a PITA because the upper race did not have a relief cut in the neck to get a bite on the bearing race for tapping it out. I also tried a laterally expanding race removal tool but there was just nothing to grab onto. Eventually with some creative effort and a helping hand, it was out.

While I was in there I drained the fork oil, which turned out to be pretty cloudy, and added fresh Mobil 1 synthetic ATF (apparently it's commonly used in lieu of fork oil.) The front end feels a bit more refined after the new oil. It's definitely a noticeable improvement.

Thanks for the update and I'm so glad it went relatively well. I'm not sure if I've got the tools and resources to do it on my own so all the info I can gather will hopefully be usable to take to my shop that handles my tire changes. Cheers to the smooth riding.

The neck bearing job could have gone smoother but overall not a bad job at all of you like digging into things. I'd say it took me a couple mornings to get it done at a slow and relaxed pace while referencing the Bolt service manual from Yamaha.

I commented on it in more detail a few posts up from this one.

Likewise. If it's an experienced shop they likely will have dealt with this in the past and may have some tricks to get them out that I didn't think of.

Hello! Your bike looks awesome! I think the SCR looks so much better with the rear end lifted up a wee bit. Awesome to hear about the neck bearing as that is one of my next projects (that and tires). I can not wait to be able to remove my hands from the handlebars without all the wobble. LOL

Thank you! I'll admit, its quite nice being able to sit back with your hands off the bars for a few seconds. Although, I wouldn't recommend doing so unless the road is empty and the conditions are appropriate.

I've made a few more modifications including heated grips and a heated seat element (soooo nice to use when it's under 60 degrees.) I also installed a battery tender lead with a USB attachment which I have powering my phone through a cord I ran up under the tank to the handlebars.

I'll try to get some pictures together to post.
