[SCR950 News]

At least that’s what YouTuber MtnMoto thinks during his test ride of the 2017 Yamaha SCR950.

He’s riding a bare bones SCR950 with an air-cooled motor out of the Bolt 950. There are no electronic aids like traction control, ABS, it just has the good old fashion standard calipers. And that’s fine with him as both the front and rear brakes has a good bite to them.

Power delivery is nice and smooth with the belt drive, but power shifts are a bit jerky because that large V-twin doesn’t slow down very fast. There’s plenty of low end torque and the burble sounds nice, so eddie you’re not alone. One gripe he does have is with the instrument cluster’s location and angle, but that’s just something you’ll get used to.

After a good test ride and simply circling the SCR950 a few times, MtnMoto found the styling to be good off the factory floor. That’s just not a common occurrence with him it seems.

He’s a fan of the turn signal binnacles on the front and back as they blend very well with the bike, and you get DOT knobbies. Yes, he can do a tail tidy on it as some forum members have done or are looking to do, but he honestly doesn’t think the license plate holder is as horribly large as the ones you usually get.

Honestly, it does look like a really nice bike the way it is. But I think it just really comes down to my problem of not being able to leave anything alone and always wanting change.

The factory design is good, not disagreeing with him there, but it could be better! A nice diamond stitched seat, clean up that rear and maybe even pain the front fender black. Just small things to make it your own and isn't that what the motorcycle culture is all about.

Has anyone ever thought about chopping off the middle connector on the stock bar? That floating metal bit on the handlebar where you usually mount a GPS or something.

Ah that would definitely add a touch of class to this bike. The subtle changes are what really makes a bike stand out and look real good. It's just finding the right cues to hit.

I always find reviews from Youtubers a lot more enjoyable than those from motorcycle publications just because they have more freedom of expression. Personal favorite is Baron Von Grumble and I wish he would review the scr950.

I must not be one of those as I actually added the cross piece to my Super Tenere's stock, tapered bars. (As seen in this Bing Streetside photo.) :grin2:
