Looks like most of the "Bolt" aftermarket exhausts will work on the SCR. Having listened to many online, I think the Cobra 4" slip-on sounds the best to me.
I felt the same way after installing the V&H Competition pipe. In the garage I was like, Wow this is loud!. After riding with it for a while I found I could get around quite stealthily, especially in the city. As long as the RPMs are kept low it's really not all that loud. The SCR is ALL low end torque so it's easy to get around without really raising an eyebrow. BUT, when you do want to wring it out and roar thru the gears it sounds pretty good. At highway speed I like to wear earplugs anyway - this is a relatively new thing and really all about trying to preserve whats left of my hearing lol. It's the wind noise that bothers me the most!Just installed a Danmoto Highwayman slip on. It looks good, and fits well (instructions were all wrong) and they included some unusable parts.
But it is painfully loud. It's almost embarrassingly loud on the road. I've contacted Danmoto asking for a baffle to try and quiet it a touch, otherwise I'll upgrade to a Akropovic or something else.
Okay, so after installing the intake and power commander it sounds much better, and once its warm, it's not too loud. And you're right, it's just the right amount of noisy at low revs.I felt the same way after installing the V&H Competition pipe. In the garage I was like, Wow this is loud!. You are doing the right thing wearing ear plugs. Me on the other hand, I simply remove my hearing aids for the same effect. Earplugs are cheap. Hearing aids are not. Mine cost more than my new SCR and it was all out of pocket, with no help from my insurance. So everyone out there, wear your earplugs! At highway speed I like to wear earplugs anyway - this is a relatively new thing and really all about trying to preserve whats left of my hearing lol. Just got off the phone with my dad - literally 15 mins ago. He told me he had lost one of his hearing aids today. I guess he was wearing a wool cap and it must have got dislodged somewhere when he pulled his cap off. So he's in a panic retracing his footsteps trying to find it. Yeah, they're SUPER expensive, I think he said his were like 5k for the pair. Mom wears them too. Neither of them have ever worked or spent time in loud environments. Over the last few years Ive noticed my hearing starting to get dimmer. I notice it most in loud places like noisy restraunts. Hoping it wont be long before medical technology advances to the point where it can be surgically corrected. Till then i will try to be vigilant with the hearing protection. You are doing the right thing wearing ear plugs. Me on the other hand, I simply remove my hearing aids for the same effect. After reading this I ran to the local Walmart Store and bought those ear plugs something like 10 pieces for $3 ... and I can't describe how amazing that experience is !!!!Just got off the phone with my dad - literally 15 mins ago. It's the first time to try them on while riding... it feels like driving a Toyota Prius :grin2::grin2: !! way better concentration ... will see when I get to the highway in the evening commute !! hope I don't miss my exit ... :grin2::grin2:
I installed my K&N intake but have yet to ride or even start my bike with it on. So I know they look great, but you say they sound great. I didn't expect it to sound much different. But I suppose the open element would have that effect. Probably the same effect as when I was 16 years old and got in trouble for flipping the air cleaner lid over on my dad's 74 Plymouth Fury. I thought that 360CID V8 sounded awesome when you mashed your foot to the floor. He thought otherwise. I miss you Dad...I have installed a K & N Air Intake PN:RK-3940 Looks & Sounds great
Would fabricating/installing larger diameter custom header pipes have a negative affect on engine performance?Header wrap will make the exhaust pipes look beefier. That’s about all you can do with stock headers.
